About Haldex

Haldex Group

The Haldex Group was formed in 1985 through the consolidation of three Swedish vehicle industry subcontractors. Garphyttan, which dated from the 1920s, Haldex, which dated from the 1960s, and Hesselman, which dated back to the 1930s.

When the Group was formed in 1985, the spring wire operations comprised its core activity, accounting for 50% of total sales. Today the brake operations constitute the Group’s core activity, and account for roughly 57% of sales.

Starting from its foundation in Hesselman, the current Hydraulics operations were built up through the acquisition of Barnes Corp. in 1987 and Vickers in 1991. 1998 saw the acquisition of Midland-Grau, a company that formed the basis for our current brake operations. Garphyttan Wire has been built up entirely within Haldex. The division first began production in the USA in 1987. The patent on a new four-wheel drive concept was acquired in 1992, with the first series deliveries commencing in 1998.

Since 1985, Haldex has achieved average annual growth of 14%, resulting in an increase in sales from MSEK 600 to nearly BSEK 8.
